It is the UK’s first national LGBTQ+ museum, a place as exciting as the people, stories and ideas it explores and celebrates. It is an essential place for all regardless of sexuality or gender identity, to find out about the culture they have been born into, have chosen or seek to understand.

LGBTQ in the British Museum

The LGBTQ in the British Museum is helping to explore objects in the collection linked to the themes of desire, love and identity. You can tour and discover a fascinating selection of objects with LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) connections. The tour ranges from the ancient world to the present day and includes some of the most famous artworks on display.

LGBTQ in the Victoria and Albert Museum

The V&A Museum’s LGBTQ Working Group unearths previously hidden or unknown LGBTQ histories in the collections and aims to facilitate understanding of LGBTQ identities and histories through research, events, discussion and debate.

It is a trail to highlight LGBTQIA+ stories across the National Museum Scotland’s collections. LGBTQIA+ stories have often been kept out of mainstream history, so it is keen to make them visible.

Liverpool has a long and diverse LGBT+ history, from gay life at sea and in port to the thriving modern gay quarter around Stanley Street. The Museum of Liverpool’s LGBT+ collections are drawn from the wider social and community history collections which seek to reflect the stories and experiences of Liverpool people, past and present.
